In its second year, the Houston Energy Financial Forum is being held in Houston, TX at the Houstonian. This event presents a unique opportunity for exploration and production companies to present current financial data to analysts and investors. The timing of this event couldn't be better. What better time to review third quarter results? Many of the presenters are the E&P executives themselves, while other attendees are investors, analysts, and other individuals that follow the sector.
The recent rise of global energy demand created a shortage of skilled professionals in the energy industry as producing and service companies increased their capital budgets to boost production. Furthermore, senior professionals and experts are reaching retirement age and their number is falling and it will be drastically reduced in the near future. This has created opportunities for E&P Young Professionals to advance their career as more responsibilities are given. By 2020, many current professionals in the industry will have retired. All eyes will be on the Young Professionals to lead the industry into the future and now is the time to prepare.
The average age of SPE members, one of the largest E&P professional societies, is 47 years old. This indicates that by the year 2020, the majority of the industry's professionals will be retired and they will be replaced by a new generation. That new generation is the current Young Professionals. In order to lead the industry in the future, Young Professionals need to recognize the complex issues facing our industry and prepare to meet current and emerging challenges. Success will require adapting to technological changes and maintaining high competency and skill levels.

Utilities have placed increased demands on their supply chain organisations to lower costs, improve supplier performance and increase market expertise. With the global expansion of utility companies and the on-going development and redevelopment of power plants in regions such as Eastern Europe and Asia, especially China, there has never been a better time to develop international partnerships than now.
Together with suppliers, Utilities have had to move towards establishing new partnerships, developing new market expertise in areas such as commodity brokerage, whilst delivering supply chain savings to operating budgets.
The International Power Summit will provide this link. IPS 2008 will present the industry with the most effective platform for partnerships at both a technical and a strategic level.
This is the ideal opportunity to reach all those buyers and suppliers from the traditional Western and USA markets together with delegates from the new emerging markets from areas such as Central and Eastern Europe, India, China and South East Asia.
IPS 2008 will provide each and every delegate with a golden opportunity to share their experiences with others, either in the roundtable discussions, the panel discussions and workshops or during the numerous social and networking events that will run throughout the International Power Summit 2008.
Registering now for IPS 2008 will guarantee your chance to meet one-to-one with Spain’s top three utility companies. Iberdrola, Endesa and Red Electricity have already confirmed their attendance at IPS 2008 and where better to meet than in one of the most interesting and exciting cities in the world.

Come taste the energy when the St Andrew Beer & Bagpipers conduct their Spring Outing.
It's a celebration of Spring - the magic season that begins on this very day, 20 March. It's a celebration of National Agricultural Day. (And, being completely inclusive, Purim begins at sunset).
The locale is central: The Red Lion Pub, 2316 S Shepherd Drive, Houston, TX 77019. (713) 782-3030. Come early to avoid parking hassles - and so you can find your car afterwards.
Decision makers from business, industry and government must now seek integrated energy solutions — solutions which assure both a secure and affordable power supply, and effective management of both energy and overall operational costs. Globalcon 2008, presented by the Association of Energy Engineers, is designed specifically to facilitate those who need to get up to speed on the latest developments in the energy field, explore promising new technologies, compare energy supply options, and learn about innovative and cost-conscious project implementation strategies.
The multi-track conference covers a variety of topics, and gives you the opportunity to hear first-hand from some of the major players in the energy field. The Globalcon Expo will emphasize four critical areas of leading edge technology and related services:
- HVAC and Smart Building Systems
- Renewable & Alternative Energy / Onsite Generation
- Lighting Efficiency
- Plant and Facilities Management
